Culture by Design – Not by Default

If you were to intentionally design your organisation's culture from scratch today, what would you keep and what would you change? What does that reveal about the culture you're currently tolerating?
Great cultures don’t happen by accident. They are designed with intention, consistency and leadership commitment.
Too many organisations leave culture to chance, assuming it will evolve naturally. But without clarity and design, culture often drifts into silos, hierarchy or disengagement.
Designing culture means:
Defining aspirational values and the specific behaviours that support them
Aligning leadership practices, processes, and systems to reinforce those behaviours
Creating consistent messages, rituals, and symbols that reinforce belonging and purpose
Netflix famously codified its culture with a 100-slide culture deck that Sheryl Sandberg called "the most important document ever to come out of Silicon Valley". Their success shows that a designed culture can scale.
At Colette Strategic Solutions, we facilitate culture architecture sessions where leaders define the DNA of the organisation they want to build and what it takes to lead that culture.
Culture is not a vibe or a mood. It's a system of repeatable, reinforced behaviours. Leaders shape the environment and the environment shapes the people.
