From Compliance to Commitment – Making Culture Stick

What would it take for your people to live your culture because they believe in it — not because they’re told to — and what’s getting in the way of that ownership?
You can’t mandate culture. You have to activate it.
Too many culture initiatives stall after the values poster goes up. But transformation happens only when leaders live the culture visibly and consistently.
When people feel that culture is real, not just words on a wall, they move from compliance to commitment. That’s when performance lifts, trust deepens and resilience grows.
To make culture stick:
Equip managers to lead with values and behaviours
Embed cultural principles in performance reviews, meetings and decision-making
Recognise and reward culture-aligned behaviours
Share stories of everyday culture heroes
Address misalignments honestly and quickly
As Edgar Schein reminds us, "The only thing of real importance that leaders do is to create and manage culture. If you do not manage culture, it manages you."
Culture change is not about workshops. It’s about what people feel, what they see leaders do, and what they believe is safe.
